THE KODAK SPONSORED GALLERY SHOW

IS HOT

New York , NY , June 2004 - Eastman Kodak Professional in conjunction with Index Stock Imagery and The Photo District Gallery , sponsored one of New York 's most successful recent photography shows. The opening was June 17 th , and the show runs until July 13 th .

The show was centered on the broad theme of: “ The Essence of Life ”. Index Stock Imagery, one of the nation's top stock photography agencies, contributed 20 images, which are displayed as a single collection, in the gallery. Some of Index's top artists contributed to the theme, and those seen at the opening were: Tim Lynch, Peter Ciresa, Kellie Walsh, Jim McGuire, Fabrizio Cacciatore, and Eric Kamp. These pieces were all printed on Kodak Endura paper at 20”x30”, mounted to gallery plexi. Each is priced at $990, with 10 limited edition copies available of each piece.

The Index artists' interpretations of the theme were varied, creative and eclectic. The subject matter ranged from horses to flowers, from landscapes to body-scapes, and from conceptual to lifestyle-oriented. As Jim McGuire, from North Carolina states: “I had many visions and ideas, and the challenge itself lead me to some deep parts of myself. The opening was an amazing celebration of the journey we all took based on this subject. I thought the images were all very provocative and challenged the viewer in a wonderful way.”

According to Meredith Conti, Manager of the Editing Department at Index: “From the artists who received solicitations along with some Kodak film, we got 20-something submissions for the show, a total of over 1,000 individual image entries for evaluation. Initial reviews were performed by our Editing Department, and those found suitable were passed along to the Gallery for the final say. While the artists were mainly from the Northeast, we also had artists participating from Washington , California and North Carolina .”

The Photo District Gallery, at 37 West 20 th Street , between Fifth and Sixth Avenues, is in the heart of the Photo District. It has a spacious street level gallery, with wide windows and well-lit walls. The Gallery markets the images it shows to architects, designers and art buyers who have a need for large artwork used in public spaces, such as building lobbies, retail and corporate spaces, restaurants, hotels and homes. According to Karen Sobel, Director and Curator for the Gallery, there were 22 other artists participating in other parts of the show, who showed work ranging in size from 20”x30” to 48”x60”. Two of these other artists that may deserve special mention are Alan Peckolick, with his Giclee prints, and Kovacs Bella Atilla, with 44”x44” prints of clown images, in the style of the old gum photographic process. Baboo Digital Labs does all of the printing for the Gallery.

Lori Hawkins, the Kodak New York Representative, was present for the June 17 th opening, to offer free film and information about Kodak's new digital cameras and high-quality printing papers. Lori is a noted fine arts photographer herself, who shows her work regularly in various New York galleries. She is an authority on the quality that Kodak can offer to a project such as this.

Over 700 people showed up for the opening, and according to Bahar Gidwani, CEO of Index Stock: “The Show was the hottest place in town that night. It gave us a great chance to bring together our whole community. Our artists, customers, employees, and even former employees all showed up. Kodak remains an outstanding example of what being artist-oriented is all about. Throughout the whole preparation process, they shared our vision of creating a unique, broad-based, exciting show.”

The Show will run until July 13 th, from 11:00 to 5:00 (Saturdays from 1:00 to 6:00) and The Photo District Gallery is located at 37 West 20 th Street .
