What are Model Releases and Property Releases? If you want to use a stock photo that includes an image of a person for commercial purposes in an annual report, advertisement, etc. We recommend that you use a photo that has a Model Release. If the image will be used for editorial purposes such as a newspaper or magazine article to illustrate your story then you probably will not need the stock photo to have a Model Release.* The issue can also extend to pets and property as well. Then the image will need a Property Release. Our photographers take care of the releases for you. That is another advantage of using stock photography. On Index Stock Imagery, you can search our stock photo library to ask for only Released images. Just check the box on the left panel before you click Go to start your search. All Royalty Free photos are Released if applicable. So if you are looking for Royalty Free photos there is no release issue. Any Royalty Free photo can be used for either commercial or editorial needs.* When you enlarge a thumbnail photo by clicking on it, the Release status information is displayed below each stock image.
